Axkid Minikid Core Car Seat Installation Video
The Axkid Minikid Core is the latest addition to the award-winning Minikid family - a belt-installed, extended rear-facing (ERF) car seat designed to keep your child rear-facing from birth to approximately 7 years of age. Approved from 40 to 125 cm and up to 28 kg, the Minikid Core is Swedish Plus Test approved and certified to UN R129, placing it among the safest rear-facing car seats available in the UK today.
Built on over 15 years of Axkid's rear-facing expertise, the Minikid Core strips things back to the essentials: exceptional safety, clean Scandinavian design, and a genuinely simple installation - without the need for tether straps.
What Makes the Axkid Minikid Core Different?
The Minikid Core takes a fresh approach to extended rear-facing installation. Unlike the Minikid 4 Pro and Minikid 4 Max, which use self-ratcheting tether straps, the Core installs using only the vehicle's seatbelt — with no lower tether straps required at all. This makes it one of the most versatile rear-facing car seats on the market, compatible with virtually any seating position in any vehicle, including cars without rear tether anchor points, front passenger seats, centre rear seats, vans, and work vehicles.
The integrated SafeLock™ system keeps the vehicle belt firmly in place during installation, while the support leg and adjustable anti-rebound bar work together to provide a stable, secure fit every time. With no tether straps to route under seat rails, installation can be completed in just a few minutes — and is straightforward enough that moving the seat between vehicles is genuinely practical for everyday families.
Swedish Plus Test & Safety Credentials
Safety is at the core of everything Axkid does, and the Minikid Core is no exception. It has passed the Swedish Plus Test — widely regarded as one of the most demanding voluntary rear-facing crash tests in the world. The Plus Test goes beyond standard regulation requirements, testing at higher speeds with greater deceleration forces, and is the only crash test that measures and limits the forces applied to a child's neck during a collision.
The Minikid Core is also certified to UN R129 (i-Size), meeting the latest European safety regulation for child car seats. It has been tested with a HIII 6-year-old crash test dummy, verifying protection right up to its 28 kg weight limit.
Travelling rear-facing significantly reduces the forces placed on a child's neck and spine in a frontal collision — the most common and severe type of road accident. The Minikid Core's rear-facing design, combined with its support leg, four-position adjustable anti-rebound bar, and side-impact protection (ASIP), creates a stable and protective environment on every journey.
Key Features of the Axkid Minikid Core
Rear-Facing from Birth to Approximately 7 Years The Minikid Core is suitable from 40 cm and newborn, right through to 125 cm and 28 kg - covering the full extended rear-facing period without the need to switch seats.
No Tether Straps Required Installation uses only the vehicle seatbelt, support leg, and anti-rebound bar. There are no lower tether straps to route or anchor, making the Minikid Core ideal for families who regularly move the seat between cars, or who drive vehicles without rear anchor points.
SafeLock™ Belt Management System The integrated SafeLock™ system keeps the vehicle belt securely in the correct routing channel at all times, ensuring a consistent and dependable installation every time you fit the seat.
CompactFit™ Design Despite its extended rear-facing capability, the Minikid Core features a CompactFit™ design that keeps it within the i-Size footprint - no bulkier than a standard car seat. This makes it suitable for smaller cars, and compatible with all seating positions including the centre rear seat, allowing families to install up to three seats across the back in compatible vehicles.
Adjustable Anti-Rebound Bar (4 Positions) The anti-rebound bar reduces seat rotation in a frontal collision, improving safety and helping to fine-tune the installation angle. Its four positions also allow extra legroom as your child grows.
DualRecline - 2 Recline Positions The Minikid Core offers two installation angles via DualRecline, allowing a more reclined position for younger babies and a more upright position for older children — useful for cars with steeper rear seat angles.
8-Position Adjustable Headrest The headrest adjusts in 8 positions to grow with your child, maintaining the correct shoulder strap height throughout their time in the seat.
Modular Infant Insert An infant insert is included to provide the correct positioning and support from newborn. The insert is modular, so it can be adapted and removed as your child grows.
Washable Fabrics Soft, washable fabrics keep the seat comfortable and hygienic over the years of use.
Who Is the Axkid Minikid Core Best Suited To?
The Minikid Core is an excellent choice for families who:
- Drive a car without ISOFIX or rear tether anchor points
- Regularly move their car seat between two or more vehicles
- Drive smaller cars, vans, or work vehicles where space is limited
- Want the simplicity of a belt-only installation without the complexity of tether straps
- Are looking for an accessible entry point into the Minikid family while retaining full Swedish Plus Test safety credentials
It's worth noting that the Minikid Core installs perfectly well in cars that do have ISOFIX - it simply uses the seatbelt rather than ISOFIX anchors, which actually gives it greater placement flexibility than ISOFIX-mounted seats.
How Does the Axkid Minikid Core Compare to the Minikid 4 Pro?
The Minikid 4 Pro and Minikid 4 Max use self-ratcheting tether straps to achieve their installation, and are approved up to 36 kg. The Minikid Core, by contrast, requires no tether straps at all and is approved to 28 kg. Both seats share the same trusted Minikid platform and Swedish Plus Test approval - the difference lies in installation method, weight limit, and the additional features found on the Pro and Max models.
